MongoDB

Last Updated: 2022-02-06

MongoDB:

  • single master
  • index: b-tree
  • data is heterogeneous: the items in the collection don’t all have the same structure for some reason

Config server vs mongos: The config server (itself replicated) manages the sharded information for other sharded servers, while mongos will likely live on your local application server where clients can easily connect (without needing to manage which shards to connect to).

MongoDB vs SQL Databases:

  • SQL db: join on db side
  • MongoDB:
    • one-to-many: self contained;
    • many-to-one, many-to-many: join on application/clinet side

Install MongoDB

Install on Ubuntu

$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv 7F0CEB10
$ echo 'deb http://downloads-distro.mongodb.org/repo/ubuntu-upstart dist 10gen' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mongodb.list
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install -y mongodb-org

Configuration File:

/etc/mongod.conf

Start, stop and restart mongod

$ sudo service mongod start
$ sudo service mongod stop
$ sudo service mongod restart

Check Stats

> db.stats()

    "collections" : 10,
    "objects" : 1680137,
    "avgObjSize" : 74.17910801321558,

This method returns the size in bytes for the collection.

> db.<collection_name>.dataSize()

This method returns the allocation size in bytes, including unused space.

> db.<collection_name>.storageSize()

This method returns the data size, plus the index size in bytes.

> db.<collection_name>.totalSize()

This method returns the index size in bytes.

> db.<collection_name>.totalIndexSize()

Index Operations

List index

> db.<collection_name>.getIndexes()

Add index

> db.<collection_name>.ensureIndex({userid:1})

Remove index

> db.<collection_name>.dropIndex({"userid":1})

List all indexes in db

> db.system.indexes.find()

Cursor Operations

> cursor.explain()

Remove Database and Collection

Remove Database:

> use <database>;
> db.dropDatabase();

Remove Collection:

> db.<collection>.remove({})

Count Documents

> db.runCommand( { count: '<collection>' } )

Mongoose

  res.redirect("/");
});

app.get("/logout", function(req, res) {
