How to Interpret Dell Monitor Model Codes

Leading Character

  • U: UltraSharp. High end; with more display inputs and/or USB ports; support for the latest standards, e.g. HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4/HBR3.
  • P: Professional. The U and P models are often very similar.
  • UP: UltraSharp PremierColor, for professionals doing color-sensitive work.
  • S: with nice panels but less adjustable stands, fewer inputs; d may or may not have USB ports.
  • E: low end. Some only have DisplayPort and omit HDM. Basic panel, basic stand, no frills.

The first two numbers: diagonal size.

The next two numbers: “model year”.

The last characters: indicates resolution, aspect ratio, panel technology, and more recently the presence of a USB-C input.

  • C: with USB-C input.
  • H: 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • D: denotes a particular panel type
  • W: ultrawide, such as 21:9 or 32:9.
